Ford Focus SVT Performance
Ford Focus takes a great stride in automotive technology as it brings out its
top performing Ford Focus SVT. This car screams performance with its highly powered
engine that delivers 170 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and achieves a 145 lb-ft of torque
at 5,500 rpm. This engine develops 85 percent of its peak torque when it reaches
2,200 rpm. At the heart of Ford Focus SVT are variable intake cam timing, a dual-stage
intake manifold, tuned tubular headers with an underbody-only catalyst, a dual-mass
flywheel, and a six-speed and twin-layshaft transaxle.

The Focus' regular DOHC four-cylinder engines are great for peak power but are
not so tough in the low-end torque so Ford's engineers modified the DOHC engine
and produced extremely potent and responsive engine and very smooth powertrian
for the Ford Focus SVT. The regular 2 L Zetec Ford engine produces 130 hp on standard
Focus models. It's tough, rigid and durable, ideal for the increased SVT engine.
Modifications made to the Zetec engine include new forged-steel connecting rods,
cast aluminum pistons with larger valve relief pockets that amplify compression
from Zetec's 9:6:1 to SVT's 10:2:1.
SVT engine also has a new cylinder that increases the flow through the intake
ports. Intake valve diameter is increased from 32 mm to 33.5 mm and is stiffer
by 27 percent while the exhaust valve diameter is retained but is stiffer 19 percent.
This allows the engine's redline to increase from 6,750 to 7,200 rpm.
